What if true happiness were down to our outlook?

I found myself chatting to my 93 year old Grandmother, Mina, over a virtual cup of tea. We spend hours chatting about family stories, war memories, her incredible ability to manage her asset portfolio on her own and we end on life. What it means to be happy. Truly happy.

She says to me “nous nous devons de nous concentrer sur ce qu’il y a de bon dans la vie et de laisser passer le mal - c’est en nous de faire ce choix”.

We owe it to ourselves to focus on the good in life and let go of all the bad - its within us to make this choice”

As she is speaking she recalls headlines in newspapers back in the day “3 years old daughter saved by her brother” “People united in the face of war” “ Emily’s life story told by her loving grandmother”. She compares these with today’s newspaper and says: it strikes me just how much media and people around me focus on the negatives. Wouldn’t people be so much happier if they spent more time recalling what good is within them and around them?

As she says this, I reflect. Something in me lights up. While there is little we can do to control the language we see around us, we can certainly change our own.

As a coach, I spend hours with clients unpicking limiting beliefs - and all these beliefs come with a negation. A “can’t do/ have/be”. But language is powerful and we own the keys to unlocking our own happiness. Many clients go from a space of impossibility to empowerment by taking a simple moment to notice, acknowledge and change these beliefs.

So if you do anything today - spend a moment changing your can’t do/have/be - into I can, I am, I do”. Notice what happens to your mind, body and soul.

Trust me - You will feel a whole lot lighter and happier.
